For a Friend

Hello old friend.
I'm just writing this to let you know
That I still think of you.
When I was told you were dead
My first thought was
"This is the worst kind of injustice"
All the things you'd been, and done,
Gone in an instant.
What of the things you still had to do?
How could it be that someone
With a brain and wit such as yours
Could suddenly cease to be?
It didn't make sense.
Then we were lowering you into the ground.
I remember thinking how heavy your coffin was.
You werent that big.
Afterwards we drank to you
(you would have liked that I know)
And we laughed as we remembered your tall tales
And outrageous jokes.
We would never see you again
But we were keeping the best parts of you alive.
I still think of you old friend.
And will continue to do so
The same as when you were alive.
With a shake of the head and a smile.
I miss you my friend, rest well.
