Memoirs of a Friend

We weren't meant to be together,
You and I,
But it seems as if fate pulled us together.
From opposite ends of the tracks
That still, antiquely, divides the town,
But never seperated us.
Best friends for forever.
You, the uptown hero with everything,
Fancy cars and name brand clothes
And boyfriends buying you diamond rings,
Me, in the "upper-middle" class,
With take out food on Friday nights,
My part time job,
Trying to fit everything in to my crammed schedule
That refuses to revolve around me.
And you always gliding everything into yours.
We have nothing in common
Except that you used to eat the crust of my sandwiches
When we were in preschool together,
Strange how friendships get started that way.
And strange how they stick, regardless.
Yes, we weren't meant to be friends,
But, despite it all,
We are anyway.

This is fantastic Gin! I too have a friend like that... kind of strange how friendships start sometimes. Great job putting it into words.
