Too late to leave
Caught in a nexus of your own making
Too far gone to admit you were wrong
The foundations of your might are quaking
Feel the shudder of another bomb
See the fireblast light the sky
Realise the mistake you made
All this death based on a lie
It took ten thousand in Vietnam
So it’s too early yet to admit the truth
With Bush too arrogant to admit defeat
How many deaths to take your youth?
Kicking the top off the hornets nest
Oh yes, a walk in the park!
But now the hornets have turned on you
And will turn your day to dark
All the grand plans of a powerful land
All the strategic gains
They lie now as mere dust at your feet
You’ve achieved NOTHING for your pains
You were told and you were warned
That there would be a price to pay
You broke the law, you murdered the poor
NOW comes the dreadful day
When the price should be paid in full
Not by Bush, NO, not by that idiot son
But by your own children in that foreign land
And by the hand of a poor man’s gun

From top to bottom, this is a rip-roaring read. I will quote now, If I may . . .
"You broke the law, you murdered the poor
NOW comes the dreadful day"
I take it this is a reference to the incredible bloodshed at Falluja? At any rate, your wording is full of power - power I felt, right up until the final line, which was emphatically used.
Here's to the 30th June handover date! |
