The Absence of Apathy

Contributed by LiquidChaos on Wednesday, 28th April 2004 @ 10:24:18 AM in AEST
Topic: Suicide

Empty words reverberate--spinning through my mind.
An unknown cold sweeps through the door--what is left to find?
I've never felt as hollow as now--pierced deep from within.
Following the darkened path, stained black and red with sin.
The colors now are fading fast--becoming shades of gray.
The words which once flowed from my mind halt with the light of day.
Are we so blind we cannot see the sickness which consumes?
The poison of greed and selfishness--this mindset that now dooms--
Humanity to run in place as history repeats.
We can no longer gain control--can't get back on our feet.
And sometimes individuals can break free from their cells,
But I attain muted sadness for I can't escape this hell.
I stand alone upon this mountain preparing for the call
No one stands below me--they won't save me as I fall.
To busy with their own affairs to bother with injustice
I am just inferior--I've found no reason for this
The overpowering absence of apathy.

I felt the intense anger in the poem. Well written.
