Peace of Mind

Polished to a fine sheen
Lustrous black heart
She was so proud to own
Resilient
No one could touch her
Impervious to pain
No one could hurt her
Except one
He called her name
Surrounded in darkness
She fell silent, wary
Waiting
Hot breath on the back of her neck
Fortunes cornered her
Robbed her heart and soul
Took what was most precious
Her peace of mind
She was at his mercy
He held her heart for ransom
He held her in his arms
She surrendered
He smiled
Then gave her back
Her peace of mind

Some souls can bring down those mighty walls we build around our hearts with a simple touch and fill us with an acceptance of ourselves for who and what we are. This is seductive, intriguing and leaves me with a sigh........ another PERFECT write Gaille.

Love the twist at the end. Know this feeling too. Hard to give again after going through it. You have described it well as always.
