Water's Edge

Contributed by TheSchroedmeister on Tuesday, 27th April 2004 @ 09:42:23 AM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

By a pond one noon,
A warm summer June,
I strummed a tune
On the water’s edge

I threw a stone,
So cold and alone,
Along the water’s edge

But wait,
A figure,
Who could it be?
Sprinting like a deer
From me
I shot up,
Curious,
With two bare
Feet,
And followed through the
Moss and trees
Through oaken groves
And hanging things,
I ran,
Breathless,
Through nature’s dream

And every new
Step closer I took,
Across the forest,
Across the brook,
The figure kept but
Equal pace, never
Closer nor farther,
Always the same

It was this way
Until I stopped
To catch what breath
I might have lost,
And I walked back
To the
Little pond
To throw my stones
And play my song

A cooling breeze
Through hollowed trees
Brought word of some
Hereafter,
And there upon the
Water’s edge
I heard a child’s
(me) laugher

Not as impressed as me, Bernard.
Bravo! I do enjoy reading your work, as it is directly captivating and always worthwhile. You burgeon genuinely original moments and let us share them, within your mind, or memory.

Laudably done.
I look forward to your next poem.

This is wonderful. You have made my day. I could remember this exact feeling and relate to it completely. May I ask about your spiritual beliefs? You don't have to answer, but a write like this has to make the reader curious.

Meter is great! Rhyme is superior to any I've seen in quite a while. This poem is pure and it took me on a journey. I could feel the leaves and such under my feet, I could feel myself runnning and as I read this poem again for the 4th or 5th time, I believe I may have even lost my breath. You have a way with words, a style so unique, I'm surprised you dont have your own book. One of the best reads I've had in awhile, I got a stint of nostalgia with this one... each word a fond memory of times that seem so far away. Thank you for sharing this. It is truely phenominal. I am thoroughly impressed.
