I Love You

I Love You 2/23/04

You've always been my best friend
The best one God could give.
I thought, “What if I lost you?
And I knew I could not live.

We swore and vowed to each other,
We would always be good friends.
No matter what would happen,
Throughout life’s turns and bends.

You are the greatest husband,
The love of my life - my friend.
And as I promised long ago,
I’ll stand by you till the end.

We rushed you to the doctor that day,
Because you weren’t feeling well.
And when he told us the shocking news,
It was like sentencing you to hell.

They tried their best to save you,
And we all thought that they had...
But little did we know,
Things were just starting to get bad.

We spent all of our time together,
Never leaving the other's sight.
Afraid of what could happen,
Scared you'd leave me in the night.

They finally let me see you,
And my eyes filled up with tears.
My whole life flashed before me,
Time spent with you all of those years.

You smiled so weakly at me,
When I sat next to you.
You weakly whispered, “I love you.
And I choked out, “I love you too.

Then you said, “Thank you, Love,
And I asked you what for?
You said, “Just for being you...
I couldn’t ask for anything more.

“You will always be my best friend, my wife,
The best one God could give.
Please don’t ever cry for me,
Just go on for me and live.

I saw a tear run down your cheek,
And I couldn’t help but cry
You know if I could have my choice,
I’d be the one to die.

I held your hand all through the night
And watched you fall asleep
I watched your even breathing,
And I began to weep.

You woke up the next morning
When the sun began to rise
And gazed out of the window
At those beautiful, pale blue skies.

You knew that it was time to go
But you held in there for me
I could tell you were in pain
So I decided to set you free.

“I love you and I always will,
And I know you love me too...
Think of the ending of this life,
As the beginning of a new.

“One day it will be my time to go,
Just when, I am not sure.
But know, my husband, from now till then,
I will love you even more.

You smiled up at me through our tears
On the death bed where you lay
I whispered in your precious ear:
“You can go now, it’s okay.

I heard you say “I love you,
As your eyes closed so slow
“I love you too, I whispered
Though my heart was screaming no.

You died that beautiful morning
When I let you gently go
I will miss you so very much...
More than you could know.

I will never forget you
In these coming years
And when I see you once again
There will be no tears.

I will manage life without you
Though it will be very tough
You will miss so many things
But what you have will be enough.

So remember this, my husband,
When we meet again some day
I love you now and always
Until my dying day.

“To enjoy the wonders of life – You must accept the inevitability of death
To wade in the in the pool of pleasure – You must drown in the lake of agony
To experience the joys of love – You must face the reality of hate
To be blanketed in the peaceful warmth of the light – You must embrace the bitter coldness of the dark…
- William Shakespeare
