In love & war.
Somewhere in England, 1946…
‘Cold’, he mouthed, his hand against her bony shoulder,
Bearing the bulk of her weight.
‘So cold’, her voice is meek,
A sound of a gramophone in the dark.
Music plays in darkness,
Her fingers cosseting his thin hair,
Nails walking through the parting—
Yongi Street at midnight.
Music play in darkness,
Rain drumming outside,
His eyes shift towards the white light of the moon.
Her tears drumming upon his cheek.
Cuts her wrist with the aid of his shaving blade,
To maneuver his attention to the armor of her conscience.
Unfazed, he glares into the mere light—
A needle of a compass.
‘Never will we see each other again’,
She is standing before the moonlight.
His vision percolates through her body,
Music plays in darkness.
‘Never will we love each other again’,
She is standing before the moonlight.
His eyes closed, darkness within,
Rain drumming outside.
Her wrist upon his dry lips,
Her blood in his throat,
Tasting the love in her veins,
Sipping the delicate red wine.
‘I have not missed you, yet’,
High & hoarse, his voice ring in her ears,
Deaf to all sentient sounds of nature.
Music plays in darkness…
THIVANKA.

This is truly beautiful and heartbreaking... If we only could end the wars of the world...

*raises an eyebrow*
Didn't the war end before 1946? I'm confused . . .
At any rate, this is quite captivating - I was quite taken by your use of verse simile on each stanza's ending, even though the thought of a beautiful 'suicide' grates on my appreciation. Eloquently written. |
