Tattered scraps flag behind a broken pane
Memories of proud love and life are all that's left
An open, festering moment that once meant joy
Now a long abandoned dream,so bereft
When smiles warmed the face and heart so pleasantly
As sunlight dancing jewel-like on a singing brook
We reveled and grew in the love shared
Amazing ourselves everyday, with a caress, a look
The alcohol in the glass warns of impending frost
Would that there be such an instrument for family
Could I, would I dare make use of it
To protect and guard against deceipt and treachery
We all have our stories, our secrets, our sins
Just rags fluttering in the passing seasons
Hidden, discarded and even forgotten
Now long ignored, whatever the reasons
The neglected ruin is a testament
Even the sands can't erase everything
When joy lays the foundation for dreams domicile
The many passing days only numb the lie's sting and faded love

This is so sad. Alcohol and drugs are the major destructors of families in this country. Hopefully one day, men and women will get their priorities right. Good write.
