To Bernie, My Love

Contributed by melis on Monday, 30th September 2002 @ 08:30:00 AM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

She drives a four wheel off-roader
In thong and uplift bra- front loader,
On a San Diego beach in the sun;
A woman of mood, a cool downtown dude;
An epicure of all the best junk food;
Takes life as it is on the run.

She’s Silicon Valley chipped;
A wanna be collagen lipped,
Sleek Californian computer geek;
Softly spoken, laid back and open;
Bent out of shape but never broken;
A happy, hippie, far out freak.

She’s a person of means;
Well out of her teens;
In control and likes it that way.
Proud to be known to have made it alone;
A feisty, free thinking woman, full grown;
Every day is her independence day.

Lives every day to the full;
Loves playing the fool,
But does so with style and with grace;
Often a clown, though occasionally down,
Till a soft word of kindness unmasks that frown,
And returns a mischievous smile to her face.

Yet she’s so much more than she seems;
Still a young girl in her dreams,
With many unmet needs in her life:
A child at her breast and what she’d like best;
To be in love with a man who above all the rest,
Would be proud to make her his wife.

I’m not sure if I’ve shown clearly,
How very, very dearly,
I love her, and quite what she means to me;
She’s my sister, my mother, there's no one above her;
She’s my best friend and lover,
Till that sad day when I set her free.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
