looking into the mirror
seeing my own eyes... frustrated
feeling like i'm incarcerated
within
the confines of my own imagination
watching the world that surrounds me
disperse and i'm finally set free
was i blind and now i can see?
why did i let you get away
with coming over every other night
even when you and your girl had a fight
listening to you tell me how good I am
when I’m no better than a one, two maybe three night stand
convincing myself that it was satisfaction
blinded by my own desperation
and the instant gratification
of your shallow conversations
creating an image of a reality more fiction
than a first grade illustration, depiction
of a life hiding in the shadows
what I wanted to be love
was nothing more than a figment of my vivid imagination.
What was I thinking
Hoping that time would change you
Thinking about you
Every time I heard a love song on the radio
Knowing that we were only putting a show
Wondering why we couldn’t have a happy home…
Oh my …. Maybe cuz you already have one?
While I’m sitting at home..
Waiting by the phone
Getting in my bed… alone
You’re out sharing the life
Smiling the smile that was suppose to be mine??????
Now I’m standing on the sidelines
Or I’m just the “girl on the side”
When did I go from wifey
To…. Well now I can see
Things are still the same
Nothing changes
Only my well painted illusions.

I loved your poem; i've always been attracted to ones that tell a story, and yours uses great structure and diction. I seldom see that in this type of poem. Thank you for a great piece. |
