He died in my arms.
He died in my arms,
A tramp inebriated by the vile war,
Shot in the midst of the heart,
Left to die by his cotemporaries
On the face the corroded earth.
Under the full moon,
His pliant face converted to a leather mask,
Veiling the supple skin,
Burying the sterile cells,
Obliterating remnants of war.
His head reposes on my dank palm,
Fingers meander through strands of blond hair,
As I hold it in utter silence,
Reciting a fervent prayer to the triple gem,
And to anyone who whishes to hear my laments.
As prerequisite chore,
I dug a quarantine hole to good depth,
Cleared all accoutrements within,
Blessed it with matrimonial vows,
And wedded the demised to mother earth.
The sand piles upon his numb body,
His countenance obscured before my vision,
I feed him continuously with sand,
Dousing an unknown personality,
Curtailed by the vile war.
A relationship, which lasted a fortnight,
A brusque bonding of warm hearts,
An intricate intimacy,
Which concluded
When he died in my arms.
