Reaching For A Star

The fog lifts to clear a path of light
revealing the stars that shine in the night.
My fingers reach and touch the space
much like they trace the lines in your face.
Gently I take the shapeless star
wonder just how many more there are.
I wake and find clutched in my hand
a grain of shimmering sand.
The connection I may never know
but the experience will forever show
that I can still dream, no matter the time
cause stars and sand rest in this heart of mine.
