AN EYE FOR AN EYE…(©Peter Sprenkeler)
They carry aloft the latest bloody corpse,
The newest victim of endless violence and hate.
Screaming “an eye for eye�…in rage and anger,
Fists of passionate venom raised…for reason it is all too late.
They attempt to quote from the Holy Book for justification
A strange and twisted irony…a half truth they in fact plead.
Never considering the other critical half of that biblical sentence,
Ignoring a vital part of the Holy Words…spiritual blindness indeed.
They do not add or even consider the end of the phrase,
“Vengeance is mine so sayeth the Lord�.
They distort even Holy Scripture to suit their agendas,
Scriptural accuracy…blind hatred just cannot afford.
They set out with supposed biblical authority,
Seeking revenge…convinced of Holy justification.
The truth is they are completely and utterly wrong,
A lethal inaccuracy… spiritual and moral aberration.
And so goes the cycle…revenge supposedly justified by God,
Endless violence…it is man’s blindness…not condoned by the Lord.
Reason is always blinded by passionate rage and anger,
A quality in man so common…yet of which he can ill-afford.
The tragic reality is violence could end so quickly,
If indeed they applied accurate biblical authority and teaching.
If they could accept that God only has the right to revenge,
Peaceful ramifications could be so far reaching.
To kill is wrong…these are in fact the Holy teachings,
Yet these parties will continue to ignore the truth.
And all they want to see…is “an eye for an eye�,
And “a tooth for a (bloody) tooth�.
