School Custard

Contributed by parkman on Tuesday, 20th April 2004 @ 02:12:01 PM in AEST
Topic: Nostalgic

Sitting in the classroom, doing your work
Your mind constantly wandering, waiting for one o’clock
The bell rings loud, you know it’s time
To head to the dinner hall and wait in line

Standing in the queue, thinking what to eat
Mince and potatoes, or the soup with no meat
Your eyes glance over, to the bowls on the right
It’s the school custard, you squirm at the sight

The skin is so thick, brown at the edges
Lumps stick out, like potato wedges
A cake in the middle, sitting solid on top
Cannot entice you, to this yellow slop

Tomorrow you think, I’ll give this a miss
Go to the shops, get chips and some crisps
No more dinner hall, at the one o’clock bell
Finished with school dinners and the custard from hell

*sighs* ah sweet bliss, the entaglements of school and all it beholds... trust me, it rarely ends - even after school! ;0)

Bah. I don't know which school you went to, but MY dinner lady always served up fantastically tasty custard. I like custard skin, by the way . . .

Good poem.
Much enjoyed reading it.
Made me hungry . . . for custard.

Ewwww, I never had lumpy custard unless there was fruit in it. Think I would have gone hungry first. No fruits to survive on????? Sounds like that school need a new dietician.
Funny piece here.
