This day was to be, the happiest of my life,
My only love was to be my husband,
And i was to be his wife.
With my dress skimming the floor,
my veil hung on the door,
I lift it down with care,
And place it on my plaited head,
then to the mirror,
I turn and stare,
I adjust my dress, i touch up my lips,
I balance my tiara with my fingertips.
I pull on my gloves, white satin they bare,
so soft, so silky, a perfect pair
I slip on my shoes, a perfect fit,
I'm nearly complete,
so down i sit.
Looking at my bouquet, resting on the chair,
The lillies so pretty, and the colours so rare,
A loud tap on the door, awakens my mind,
and out i then step, leaving my old life behind.
Now finally there, i make my way,
On the path towards the church,
I see many faces i recognise,
But then i begin to search...
Where is the man that i want?,
Where is the man i love?,
And why isn't he here waiting for me?,
I pray as i look above
Thoughts and fears rolling through my mind,
Like the angry tide,
Now why would my man miss this chance,
Of me becoming his bride?
As an hour goes by,
no more tears left to cry,
And my lillies droop to the floor,
I then realise my love has left,
My man wants me no more.
I turn to run, leaving my veil behind,
My bouquet in a trail,
My lipstick smudged,
My hair in a mess and my face and body pale
I loved that man, and he loved me,
But still he's left me alone,
Will he ever tell me why?-
I guess only time will show.
Now the end of this tale, is for you to decide,
For your imagination to create,
Will the young bride ever find her man,
Or will she forever wait?
So use your mind, and use your heart,
To make a happy end.
Or perhaps to make a fresh new start?
And for her heart to mend.
A bride so young, fell in love,
She thought he loved her true,
She was ready to build a life with him.
That life she never knew..........??
