The highway is short, yet it goes on forever
I will run out of gas, but that is a petty apprehension
There are signs everywhere, but I am blind to them
They point out the right direction, but I am lost in a state of oblivion
Many miles back, I became stale
Which way must I go to be made good again?
To my right is the grass
It is green and succulent
I long to feel the smooth blades fill my mouth with their sweetness
It beckons to me, and fills my heart with hope
Why is it that the cow can graze upon its tender leaves, and yet I cannot?
To my left it is barren
Death lingers in the air
My nostrils are filled with its stench, and I feel its heavy presence in my lungs
It suffocates me
My heart screams for living air
I breathe in, but nothing can penetrate a substance so thick
Where am I now?
I am lost and dizzy
Ahead I see a truck with a sign that reads, “I will lead you in the right direction
It has been there forever, but now in my dire need I heed its presence
With more hopelessness than faith I follow
