Melancholy

Topic: DarkPoetry

Riding my bike
working hard
to go faster, farther.
Lose more wieght,
Build more muscle.
But for what?

Out riding before sunup
some think I'm crazy.
Maybe they are right.
Playing in traffic
On a bicycle.
But where's the loss?

If I survive, I'm in great shape.
If I don't, no one will notice.
The only loss will be to me
and that is the loss,
of one of my magnificent bikes.

I gently touch the frames
Of these machines.
Made by hand,
And with respect.
As if I were touching a lover,
These bikes have taken me out
Into the world, and
Safely returned me home again.

If you don't ride,
You just don't know.
How can slender steel tubes
have spirit? Or soul?

Yet I am in the saddle,
and if I want to take it easy,
ol' Blue is good with that..
But somehow, she talks to me,
and whispers "Let's go..."

And go we do!
Farther and faster than
I can believe.
Me and the bike are old,
But we do get around!

Gentle prodding to do
just a little better.
Never more than I can,
But all that I can.
Ol' Blue gives her all,
And expects no less from me.

A sad state of affairs
When my best relationship
is with tubing and tires,
But the bike is honest
No pretense or deception.

Sitting at my desk,
Thighs aching from the morning ride.
But I can scarcely wait
for the time to pass.
To be astride her saddle.

A little time alone,
me and the bike.
She makes my heart
Pump hard,
But never breaks it.

A good descriptive write -- it catches the ride and the mood very well!

I know that tube and tires have both spirit and personality.

good job!
