Sobriety

Contributed by Alli on Tuesday, 13th April 2004 @ 12:29:40 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

The bodies passed out on the floor seem to float up around me
The morbid stench of sex and death
Mixes with the sweet aroma of incense
The freezing room becomes warm and comfortable
And all is well
I have many friends, and feel wonderful and loved
I slowly drift into a peaceful sleep
of magic and enlightment
My mind begins to float into a bizarre world of fantasy
I am scared, yet enjoying every minute of it
For the first time in my life
I feel like I'm actually starting to amount to something
My thoughts and hopes are crashed
As my crusted and blood-shot eyes open
To reveal a horrible world of truth
A terrifying hangover of hate settles around me
The drunken veterans of pills, needles and scars
Turn into the monsters that inhabited my closet as a child
All my enemies and fears come to life as I sober up
But as the full headache sets in
I suddenly feel superior
To the crackheads lying in the artificial world where I once was
I had been forced to suffer the rath of hatred but one time
But the evil people who I thought were my friends
Must suffer a thousand times more.
2003

has lots of detail and very good imaging. I like how it sets out the truth of being taken over by drugs.
