How do you measure wealth?

Contributed by keviner on Monday, 12th April 2004 @ 07:03:21 PM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

Two men got into an argument one day.
Each one wealthier than the other could say.

The first one told of his millions in stock.
The five-bedroom home sitting high on a rock.

A choice of expensive cars and a beautiful wife.
This he claimed was a very wealthy life.

The second man claimed millions in the bank.
Loose change in his pocket when stocks sank.

A wife of 5 years and children on the way.
To him he was wealthier than any man any day.

A third overheard and told of himself being rich.
He told of starting work, very young, digging a ditch.

Working 20 years in a factory to pay for his home.
Having a wife he adored wherever they may roam.

Six children that loved their daddy and told him so.
Keeping Jesus in their hearts wherever they go.

Going to church every Sunday and praying each day.
To me I am the richest man standing here this day.

They laughed at him and told him he was not rich at all.
He told them “How a man measures wealth is his own call”.

Wealth definitely cannot be measured by money. Wealth is, in my humble opinion, measured by the love you have in your heart and the love received from family and friends. The respect you have for yourself and other and the care and concern for humankind. This is a great poem.

What a wonderful mesage behing this write. I wish more people would acknowledge the fact that wealth is not measured by the amount of money one has.
