The Fairy

Contributed by rogad on Monday, 12th April 2004 @ 10:28:08 AM in AEST
Topic: DreamsandWishes

'tis a hollow branch, seeping foul stench,
The cause of my woe. In dreams this I saw:
On a dusty hill, by a gloomy rill,
Stands what does fear dole, a misshapen bole;

On this fiendish tree there hums not a bee
And no gnat does sing, does not flit a wing.
Though leafy 'nd thriven 'twas never shriven
But lays now, a ward prized to Demons' Lord;

And all who pass by give out a deep sigh
And shiver in fear whenever they're near.
Then the reverie a fairy showed me
Who heedless and proud hollered this out loud:

"From thy leaves leaks uneasy pain
And sorrow now games in your brain:
Though life is so sacred to me
I must have thee now cease to be..."

This stated she drooped and, rising, she looped
Like air was her soil, in a gay turmoil:
Then two lights spread out, the tree - hark! - did shout
And in twain cloven lay with roots woven.

Strained, in sweat I woke, feeling like a poke
Hit my poor old heart with a sour fist tart;
But my woe gave way, so since then I pray
To that fairy kind Who healed my ill mind.

A somwhat disturbing write.. I shudder still at this depiction of a fairyland most dark...though the message at the end is somewhat nice...in a dream this is sick and twisted but at last rescued by the fairy's seemingly terible wish. I usually though of fairies in nicer light.....but I need to remember perhaps that fairies are not fun but really uncaring towards men.. wishing only to enjoy their private games at our expense...

oh well! a very interesthing but disturbing write.
