They enter and the room stops breathing,
all knives and forks silent....no one is eating.
Young they are, maybe age twenty-seven,
but their union, must have been made in heaven.
She is short, perhaps only four foot tall,
although short, she is not small.
He is at least six feet in height, and very thin
always has her hand in his, wearing a grin.
She cannot walk without his steady hand,
and proudly they share a simple golden band.
He pulls out her chair, gets her comfortably seated,
she glances at him, he knows he's loved and needed.
But all can tell, he also has a disability to bear,
but doesn't let it interfer with her care.
They seem like an unlikely couple to some, but...I must admit,
how proud I would be, if with me they would sit.
This is not a story of two individuals disability,
but rather the story of devotion and ability.
That love that shows, with the pat on her shoulder,
I know it will continue as they both grow older.
And as I watch, can't help but feel the tear in my eye,
not from sadness do I wish to cry,
but out of pure admiration for two strangers, sitting together there,
as normal as everyone else....he has now touched her hair.

You weave your words so well, storyteller. I too would be proud to have them at my table. Devotion is a rare thing these days. I would love to have seen it, wait, I just did, thank you.

This is so lovely, and puts across an important message in such a beautiful way. Devotion is rare, and your admiration for these people is something beautiful in itself.
