Queen Anne's Lace

Queen Anne's Lace
In my daily travel's, I pass a plot of dry parched earth.
For several days I've noticed, a group of flowers had given birth.
Tall and stately, beautiful white blossoms, reaching for the sky,
today they spoke to me, as their beauty caught my eye.
I saw them more than the weed, known as Queen Anne's Lace,
growing in the middle of this unfriendly place,
it's feet planted firmly in the dry and dusty earth,
it clung to life.... struggling since it's birth.
The struggle was rewarded with beauty, waiting to be seen
pure and white, strong...as if somehow in a dream,
awaiting the day when someone would notice it standing there,
take the time to gaze, perhaps even care.
A memory spilled forth, as I remembered when I was a child,
this same weed had upon me often smiled.
I would pick it gently, place it with water in a jar,
now, once again I see the same beauty...only from afar.
Perhaps there is a lesson, I was needing to be taught,
beauty and strength come from the battles that have been fought.
We are as weeds, put upon this earth, not merely to survive,
but with the strength within us, we not only live... but thrive.
My soul is my foundation, it's roots deep with
in my heart.
My eyes still see beauty, my ears hear the song of the lark.
All this brought back to me, by the gaze upon Queen Anne's Lace,
as it took me on a journey, back to a very special place.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
