mother, you were never treated right
no, you didn't get loved like you should have
your fulfillment was derived from bringing up your daughters and not from the support of your man
feeling perpetually out of place even at home
i didn't feel free enough to tell you all i wanted so much to say but i know now you did the best
that you could by the light you had to see with
i no longer blame you for any part of my past
i only hope you are happy today and that
one day some really good man comes along
and loves the hell out of you like you deserve
