Easter Memories
------------------------
I remember Easter morning as a boy,
Waking up to the surprise left by the Easter Bunny.
Molted balls, jelly beans, and candy bars,
Chocolate rabbits, little peeps, and bites-o-honey.
It looked like a candy store,
And my siblings and I were in our glory.
We had to get ready for church,
But believe me, we were not in any hurry.
But our mother took us aside,
And reminded us what Easter was all about.
As she told us about the suffering Jesus went through,
It make our hearts just want to melt.
Suddenly the candy wasn’t as important,
As the meaning of the day.
And as a family we all got ready,
Off to church we went on our way.
And now that I am older,
I remember the stories my mom would tell.
How Jesus rose from his grave,
And how he lives within us now.

Of candies, bunnies and easter.. my oh my...of lions, tiger and bears I never got the thing about the bunny.. and candy I might add. While not a Christian I make it a point to study religioud correlation and I must add that I find it strange the a bunny.....a bunny mind you is associated with such a solemn christian celebration... do not ask me of Santa Claus either for that would trigger another rant. But all in all a very quaint memory of a very joyful childhood moment coupled with the tender realization of the true virtue that Easter signifies. Adieu! |
