In Golden Mist Fallen…

Contributed by fionndruinne on Friday, 9th April 2004 @ 08:58:39 PM in AEST
Topic: mythology

Afar in the East
When the shining sun rose
In golden mist
Tall were the towers
Of faraway palaces
Of the Golden Isle.

Bright as a sun
From the sea they rose
Piercing the fog
Like heart’s delight
Like the gulls’ keen cry
Was the Golden Isle.

On the edges of sight
Were her havens
Where tall fair ships
Came and went
With the keen cold wind
That blew in the Golden Isle.

Tall were her warriors
Bright-eyed and fell
Like stars their spearheads
When they went to war
In the Wide Lands
Singing of the Golden Isle.

Strange were the songs
That came to us
Like sun on polished stone
And the glitter of gold
In the sundered speech
Of the Golden Isle.

But darkness fell
Over that sunlit land
And the hearts of her kings
Were black as jet
And shadow tarnished
The Golden Isle.

Cold was the night
Bitter the wind
We longed for the day
But when the sun rose
There was no light
From the Golden Isle.

Keen now the cry
Of the wayward gulls
Whose home is lost
Alas! It has fallen
In golden mist has gone
The Golden Isle.

Ai Atalantë, laurëa nórë lantaina!
Anar enyalë alcarilya,
Hísiesse laurëa lantaina.

(Alas Atlantis, golden land fallen!
The sun recalls your splendour,
In golden mist fallen.)

A great write on a favourite subject of mine.. the lost lands of Atlantis that great mystery post hence. You have captured herein a distant glimmer and perchance a glance upon the golden isle of Atlantis that vanished lovely lands. Bravo mon ami.. a great write this is to me!

laurëa nórë lantaina! Indeed!

Perchance one of these that I would walk upon those vanished shores....this is a dream I have.

Golden shores
On the edge of our dreams
Behold us
Caught in ratio
Bound by fear
May we fly through our dreams
For in here lays our last chance
To find who we really are

A wonderful hymn, flowing, caressing and beautiful.
Keep this up.

Such a beautiful write will stay in our minds forever, that way the city of Atlantis will never be forgotten. Wonderful write, very classical like most have said. Thoroughly enjoyable.

*stares, dumbstruck*

Well, color me impressed. This is absolutely amazing and the very epitome of what poetry ought to be. I love reading about Atlantis and with this beautiful poem I could almost hear those gulls crying . . .

Wonderfully vivid imagery and pure eloquence. Nicely done.

I love this poem. IloveitIloveitIloveit. It's beautiful, powerful, emotive . . . perfect. I just can't say it enough-- I love this poem!

Lol sorry . . . it's just amazing.

My only gripe with it: WHY haven't you written any more poems since it?!?!?! Hurry up, you :-P.

Atlantis the golden age the golden state's form. A beautiful image you have painted for us in this most excellent work. A wordsmith of great talent. I shall look out for more of your poems. Have you had any work published? your talent is so obvious that I should think that most publishers would be glad of a chance to put your work in print.

This is almost unexpected from you Andrew.
Please note I said almost.
If I didn't know about your love of swords and the good ol' days...
Very nicely done.
This was a very cool poem.

I read this one before but had no time to comment. Now I shall:
I really like this one. See, I fancy hearing stories about Atlantis...such mystery... Where'd it go?? Just vanish or what?
I like to hear tales like those of Atlantis and what could have happened, what they've found, what they haven't found, what they'd like to find.
Anyway...
This poem is really cool, I love the way you use "Golden" a lot... the whole poem has a "golden" air to it.
Really liked this one.
Love,
Chelsea

Geeze, dude an incredibly sad piece on an end...ending of lives, homes, love, angst. This truly had me from beginning to dying end. Hoo yeah. You did well, A.
