Mr. Wise cries in his coffin
For some days that have long past
And through the town of parades marching,
Children running as fast as they can,
We drop what we are doing to remember
The Last Good American Man
As his buddy, Mr. Ethical comes up on to speak
The children silent all their laughter
And look down upon their feet
“Friends, he was a man of peace, man of love,
He had a, how do you put it, gentle like sense.”
And then President Bush began to snicker
The old veterans gave salute
To the man that laid before them
Everyone began to argue for
The Last Good American Man
Mr. Wise reached up his hand
And shut the coffin closed
Above laid a single rose
And a stone that read:
Here lies good Mr. Wise
He gave more than he was given
And him, in this day, this age,
Was just so sick of livin’
And the rich began to protest
As the poor began to shout
Though the service wasn’t done,
All you could hear was fighting from everyone
And as mothers held their children
As fathers built the new
All think of what Mr. Wise has been through
And all prayed for
The Last Good American Man
