A bit of wood and steel,
but the ability to feel
the warmth of flesh at night
as the moon shed it's light.
Whispered promises, tender kiss
staying awake all day so as not to miss
the cool breeze flowing overhead,
never revealing a word that was said.
Strangers, friends... giving comfort from rage
or sad words on a written page.
Wood and steel, there's comfort on it's seat,
arms across the back, when one's beat.
A bench all alone, one can not tell
all the life it's seen, or what was the spell
it cast on many a moonlight night,
only that the feeling of closeness felt right.
A tear may have fallen upon it's paint,
from one not suddenly a saint.
Laughter shook it's frame
when one spoke a funny name.
Simple wood and steel,
but the ability to feel
the warmth of flesh at night
as moon and emotion blend just right.
