A simple word (from my story “Shadows and Light”)

A simple word I wish to speak
To whisper in her ear so fair.
Such a damned word foul yet fair
So terrible to speak from the heart!
Am I damned for what my heart says
Do the stars of heaven die because of my simple word!?
Will she understand me
Or stab my heart and bleed me in Nile!
Does the world damn my simple word
And hate my black heart!?
Has such a word been spoken
That holds so much weight?
I say nay never more than now
This hollow word bears meaning
And if I am damned because I speak it
Damn me so for I speak it to her
If the world wants my heart
Then I gladly rip it out and hand it to them
I follow my heart be it foul or fair
I give it to hear no matter what I may be

This is really good, well written, sweet, a feel good poem. I especially love the last few lines, they really bring everything together nicely. Great job! |
