Toll for Breath and Whispering

Contributed by Firefly on Sunday, 14th July 2002 @ 03:47:37 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

These arms, they long to hold you
as I dreamed you, a candle,
piercing darkness in
the darkest night.

Tho strange, these fears, in light of day
they taunt, still I am fearless
but, this love I dream invulnerable,
a fragile flame at whisper’s threats.
And all I can do to save it
is to keep this candle lit.

So in the hours of my waking
I shall not closely speak
nor whisper how I love you.
I’ll never whisper what I long for;
those lips softly pleasing,
sensual kisses, warm and slow.

But, in the silent darkness of my precious dreams
where my love for you; forever;
and ever is, desired.
Oh, how I’ll live while dreaming.
Oh, how I lived in candle’s fire
breathing life and knowing love.

But now, aware of all that’s due
in toll for breath and whispering
of midnights past and moonlights drifting
tangled words of precious things
beneath my wings of waking.

Now candles dowsed in morning dew.
Shattered dreams of me and you,
And pieces of a broken heart
lay quiet on my bed.
