A Cowboys Time

Contributed by Inspector on Tuesday, 6th April 2004 @ 04:12:11 PM in AEST
Topic: goodbyepoetry

Ride on ‘ol cowboy your time’s drawing near
The trail boss is calling, can’t you hear
He’s got cattle to herd and ponies to break
His need for a good man like you is great

Your life has been full, a dream come true
Don’t you worry and don’t be blue
There’s a young cowboy trying to be like you
A hero that only a cowboy can be

Take him and teach him all that you can
Show him the way of a cowboy man
Teach him to rope and teach him to ride
Everything that shows a cowboys pride

Help make him wise and strong
And tell him when he’s wrong
Be the bigger of the two
And he will always remember you

Ride on ‘ol cowboy your time’s drawing near
The trail boss is calling, can’t you hear
He’s got cattle to herd and ponies to break
His need for a good man like you is great

Ride on ‘ol cowboy, ride on

I am from a long line of ranchers and this is really how it works with them. The older ones break in the news ones and the circle continues for generations at times. It isn't something you can learn in a book. It is either in the man or it isn't. Phenomenal write.
