THE SECRET MEETING

THE SECRET MEETING

The plane touched down with a jolt on-route,
Black SS boots snapped to attention and salutes.
Oak leafed General leaves the unmarked plane,
Silver death pendent shimmers in the rain.
Followed by Gestapo and plain clothed advisors,
They board a car opened by one of the drivers.
Nazi flag flutters in the stiff breeze,
Driving through avenue of autumn trees.
Approaching an iron gate the car slows down,
Blue-eyed official slowly winds the window down.
Guard approaches and is handed folded papers,
He salutes to the General and his advisors.
Through the Iron Gate the car pulls through,
A bewitching Chateau comes into view.
Staff escorts the General inside,
He stretches his back after such along ride.
The Chateau was full of Thespian arts,
A table scattered with secret charts.
Pictures of Hitler and a gaunt looking Goring,
General smiles lifting the decanter slowly pouring.
The group are seated as the meeting gets underway,
Food is brought round on silver trays.
The General clipped open a document holder,
Removing a top secret embossed folder.
As the meeting began three hours went past,
Until a decision was made over Bourbon at last.

THE REPORT READS AS FOLLOWS

With immediate affect all Jews will be put to labour,
Others sent to camps and disposed of in the gas chamber.
Auschwitz to be extended and burners built,
This impure menace will finally wilt.
Mass extermination of an inferior race,
Extermination is the answer it’s an open and shut case.
We are Arian we must stamp out this plague,
These are the decisions we have gladly made.

With embossed folder secured in his case,
The General leaves smile on a cruel face.
Sixty million Jews will eventually die,
Women and children murdered why?
Auschwitz is now a memorial site,
Still no birds sing or even take flight.
Candles glow in the burners by day,
As visitors remember, kneel and pray.

This poem is really good. And it's written as though you were a fly on the wall during that meeting. All I know about WWII I learned in history lessons, but this is written as though it's very personal to you.
