In the days following the collapse of Rome,
The piper came and left.
He led to Truth the few who followed,
while others were bereft.
The few who followed learned at once
the fortune in their choice
and smiled on their little clan,
enthralled by Reason’s voice.
They formed a Bond between themselves
and sanctified their name.
From that day forth, those men all knew
nothing was the same.
Their purpose became clearly known
to every person there.
Praise God, seek Truth, and help
your Brothers. They were all aware.
They spent some time out in those woods
with what the piper knew.
They took it in, and learned of Life
until they knew it too.
For eight short weeks, they stayed out there
with the piper pariah
while all around them, forests whispered
a magic word, Phikeia.
They came back then into our world
and stayed forever bound,
while reveling in truth and wisdom
and everything else they’d found.
They realized quickly that their knowledge
had to be passed on
and sought out individuals
worthy of their Bond.
In darkened caves and secret rooms
they met and shared their thoughts.
For centuries, their rites were done
every chance they got.
Sometimes other folks would learn
a thing or two of them,
and try to form their own such group
without the Truths within.
Those other groups could never grasp
why they weren’t as great
as the Brothers that they had admired
since their birthing date.
The wisdom of the piper shall
forever carry on
from the oldest of our Brethren
to the newest in our Bond.
The Truths of life, for their own sake,
are ours, and ours alone;
for others who have sought the same
have wound up finding none.
I live my life by those great words
from our originator,
forever glad to have signed the Bond
of our Phi Delta Theta.

I really really liked this one. I was never in a fraternity so it is nice to read about the history and stuff that goes with it... |
