THE WISH TELLER
A young teenage girl walks into a dark misty office and sits at the desk. She rests her hands on her lap nervous her fingers jitter and tap. A light snap of a book whistles a chime as the wish teller dances in her psychic mind.
“Oh my dear wish teller, do tell what you see?
Tell me my life, tell me my dreams
tell me, tell me, tell me…
What do my darkest dreams say about me?
Am I Successful? Famous? Married? And Wealthy?
You see so much, you know so well
So see me well…
See me and please do tell.”
Your parents are divorced and you went on your own
You dropped out of school and live in your friend’s home.
Your in love with a man who has a wife that kicked him out,
Your pregnant; your son at 15 seeks to go find is father out.
Your apartment is a basement with 2 months rent behind
You work at Wal-Mart looking for luck to find.
Luckily in time you find your place at thirty-five
A cheery child day care center working nine to five.
You’re a grandmother at thirty eight giving back what you forgot,
Your grand child will have a life that you and your son did not.
The girl is shocked her mouth whispers sorrows her head dreams of tomorrows. How could this be how could she know? She shakes with hands hoping to know a clue or a sign a hope to turn back the hands of time. But is it not so I can change she says in her fiery lips with her polished cuticle finger tips.
Ah yes let’s see you graduated college and get your PHD,
Your parents are very proud when you went to marry.
Your husband is a lawyer and you are a family physician.
You have a home in the Bahamas and an apartment in NY City
You have allergies to shellfish and develop cancer in the kidney.
Two years later your father dies of cancer,
Your mother is with you crying wishing for an answer.
Your sister moved away and you never see her visit.
Your husband has an affair that he never will admit.
You get divorced and live with your mom by your side
Your illness becomes worse and will end your ride.
She bites her nails her face turns pale and her hands get numb. She pushes her thumb into her side to gasp a gulp. Her voice goes sulk and her mood turns deep as she slowly begins to sadly weep.
“I just want to be rich and have a family....
I don't want my husband to cheat that's not a life
I don't want my children to see me die
I don't want my parents to leave my side
What's that you say?”
The Wish teller gloats a smile and churns a crisp gesture that puts texture in her thought.
“I only tell you what life lets me see
Only you can make life what you want it to be…”
