I ran in circles for so long
Useless meandering
Against all odds
Choosing to believe
Things couldn’t get worse
Arguing in the mirror
With a stranger, she said
You’re a fool to go on
With this dangerous game
But I didn’t listen
I called her a liar
Turned out the light
So she’d disappear
I followed my heart
Instead of my head
Taking terrible chances
Disregard consequences
When everything precious
Was laid on the line
Cold sweat and regret
Found its way in my dreams
Fouling the fantasy
Turning rainbows to black
I was left all alone
Unadorned by love’s colors
A shadowy crone
My loving gold crown
Lies tarnished and broken
