Everyone stares

Contributed by sheri on Friday, 2nd April 2004 @ 11:32:05 PM in AEST
Topic: Event

Everyone stares at me ,
why, I wonder do they label me crazy,

perhaps it's due to the fact that
my skin is a little too pale
from avoiding over exposure to sunlight
maybe it's my mother's gift of
dark circles which underline my bright blue eyes
passed down for countless generations,
could it be because I have never been a size two,

no these are not the reasons they whisper
and actually down right stare
when they think I won't notice

never have I been sure what makes the
inhabitants of this charming town fear me,
what feature made guys never choose to date me
it wasn't just because I was fat
or that I am overly unpleasant to look at,
It's just that I am me from head to feet
I see what other refuse to even glance at,
sadly this scares most, even me,

uniformity seems the key strong hold to
belonging in this community
but I never signed up for that package

so I travel that path less beat down
by the soccer moms and my high school nemisi,
let them whisper what they imagine to be true
about my unruly unnatural nature
I am proudly me, a strong thick soul
with enough wisdom and grace to be
what god intended for me to be.
