Will I Forever See A Sunset

Contributed by Justalady on Friday, 2nd April 2004 @ 09:36:25 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

When I was a child and saw the evening sun disappearing,
and the song birds were no longer within my range of hearing,
I would settle down and dream of what was yet to come,
would the day be different with the morning sun?

Did the earth really move as I had been told, like a spinning top,
move the sun somewhere else...give someone else a brighter spot?
Would the birds return to charm me with their never ending song,
why was their lovely tune never ever wrong?

Oh, I was so curious, wanted answer's to everything,
even wanted to know why summer always followed spring.
I learned that a flower could sprout from a tiny seed,
and the world was at my finger tips, as I began to read.

But some things I could only experience, I had to become older,
to feel the warmth of love, as I rested my head on someone's shoulder.
Once again I would watch the sun disappear from my view,
only this time it brought emotions that were entirely new.

Sunsets for me have never lost their charm and beauty,
the song bird still sings it's song, and I've fulfilled my duty.
And, yes I am yet curious...as my days turn into night,
what will tomorrow bring, what will be my plight?

Will my heart always see the wonder I saw when I was young?
Will I remember the tune that the song sparrow sung?
Will my eyes forever see sunsets, that caught my breath each day?
Will my heart always feel as if I had much more to say?

I have no words to tell you how this moved me...I will simply offer roses and silently slip away.

Very, very well done

Hi Justalady!
Having reaching my new "wonder years", I too have all these questions. Quite revealing of that "middle age not quite pre-menopausal" stage that I find myself in. I think I'm going to find a field to lay down in it and make things with the clouds, like I did as a child, and see if I still have that wonder that I had then. Thank you for this inspiring write...
In Spirit,
Bear

I think a lot of us feel this way in later years of life. I just hope I see a lot more sunsets before the flickers fade. This is really a lovely piece.

Rainbows,
Rita
