Twain on Truth

TWAIN ON TRUTH…(©Peter Sprenkeler)

A remarkably gifted individual was Mr Twain,
I will remember him always for one oh so special line.
“Forgiveness is the perfume the violet sheds……
On the heal that has crushed it”…a truth unchanged by time.

He eloquently penned a profound truth and maxim,
Beautifully clarifying forgiveness…so succinct and precise.
Yet sadly…few would understand his poignant words,
Even fewer would apply…the undeniable underlying advice.

For we reside in a world where selfishness reigns,
And when fully pregnant…gives birth to an obscene vanity.
Few would give Mr Twain’s words even a casual consideration,
Pearls of wisdom…treated with indifferent profanity.

For he wrote on the very key to a peaceful and orderly society,
Forgiveness is the answer to this troubled and hurting world.
Forgiveness is the calming oil poured on man’s turbulent sea,
The flag of peace…for all of us could be fully unfurled.

Mr Twain was not the first to extol the virtues of forgiveness,
He was preceded many years before by a Builder from Bethlehem.
He also spoke powerfully on the true value of forgiveness,
Both tried to explain its critical value…to generally very deaf men.

And so we go on…Twains words trampled in the dust,
The Builder also ignored…how could a people be so blind?
Unforgiveness and hatred are the real Gods of this age,
We were given the keys…but in blindness we left them behind.
