Colin the elephant goes ice-skating

Colin the elephant was bored, quite bored in fact,
But then his good friend Eric the donkey phoned,
He suggested going ice-skating at the local rink,
And it sounded good, at least at the time.
But you will know yourself, self-doubt will surface,
Colin had never been ice-skating before alas,
And he had it in his mind he’d make an ass of himself,
With all due to respect Eric the donkey of course.
Eric came round in the afternoon and off they went,
They cycled off to town, meeting their mates on the way,
Jack the llama was there and so was Graham the tiger,
They were all good pals and were so very excited.
It was very tense for Colin and he really felt icky,
Wished he’d never agreed to this lark but far too late,
When he finally got some skates on, jumbo size,
And his red and white bobble hat, he went pale.
Now, you’ve probably been ice-skating before, yes I knew,
And you are probably very good at it aren’t you?
But you must remember the first time you set foot on ice,
It’s tentative stuff, an inch at a time, often a fall or two.
With Colin being a big lad his first fall shook the place,
And you could just tell from his face that it hurt, ouch,
But, full credit to Colin, he was swiftly up and tried again,
Yet he couldn’t get the hang of it and said bad words
Graham the tiger roared, which is what tigers do,
He thought it was funny, didn’t mean to upset his mate,
Kind of thought that this wasn’t Colin’s finest hour,
And that he might think of turning to ten pin bowling.
You and I know Colin better than that though, don’t we,
And he kept on trying, same result, more ouch,
Wasn’t going to be beaten, no matter how many bruises,
Strangely Colin’s life changed for the better just then.
As he was sitting prostrate on the ice, cold butt time,
A soft, sweet voice beside him asked if he needed a hand,
Colin gupled as he looked up and saw a pretty girl,
Introduced herself as Liz the lady elephant from nearby.
She helped him up, took his hand and they skated around,
They just smiled, didn’t talk much, but Colin felt real good,
And the others looked dumbfounded, which is a long word,
With Graham in disbelief saying, “Look, Colin has pulled!”
Colin walked Liz home, along with his bike of course, silly,
Got to her home and he asked if he could see her again,
He was a bit ify about that, but she said Friday was good,
And I expect you're wondering if they kissed goodbye –
keep wondering.

| Ha ha ha ha GREAT write here! I can readily relate to his tale... I am somewhat of an elephant and I went ice skating once with friends...I fell once and again and again how quaint I was even helped up to my feet by a lovely lady friend..well several actually..and they had to hold my hands or I would have to crawl all they way...HA HA HA .those were the days...indeed.... memories..ahh thanks for such a creative and funny write...I really enjoyed it! |
