Destiny

insomniac

The silence rings in my ears
with a deafening sound once
compared to the murderous screams
of the tortured; bound and gagged
yet still able to call out their warning
to the surrounding emptiness-
A deep hole stands between me and
my destiny and fate mockingly smirks
from across the void; wearing a mask
of my future, a gown of my present
and the scent of my past, because
that is all the past really is once it's
over and done. Breathing in
what’s left of my fresh air, allowing
it to pass through my lungs as easily as
a baby passes through his mother
into the lonely world. Only seeking
dispair that is all you will find and the
painful realization that this, yes this
is not merely coincidence but also my
fate and only I can change it. Looking
back into the familiar face of fate across
the vast darkness all I recognize
are my mistakes. As I weep into my
hands, the ominous colors portray a
beautiful rainbow of red, blue, green,
purple, orange onto my eyes and
for one split second I remember when
the world did not seem all that bad
and I smile the biggest, brightest
smile because for once in my pathetic existence I actually feel
an overwhelming feeling of peace and
serenity, for there is so much beauty
and even though its not everywhere-
its just enough.

WoW! It's simply wow! I enjoyed reading this one! Really vivid description! You have my same problem, not able to sleep thinking about all the things I did wrong and then after a good weep I'll feel like I can arrange things...just to re-do same thing the night after! Awesome write!

Damn Lindsey---that is some mighty good writing, and it left me with a chill (as well as tons of thoughts in my head). I'd like to be able to help you through any dark times that you encounter, never forget that.
" As I weep into my

beautiful rainbow of red, blue, green,
purple, orange onto my eyes and

the world did not seem all that bad"
I stand humbled by those lines...
Truly,

Beautiful, just beautiful. Again and again you grind my poetic self-esteem to nothingness as I read more and more of yours and see how much you outshine me . . . I'm quite jealous, y'know.
I loved your description of the silence, and those last six lines were just so uplifting they made me smile, too.
