The moon shined down upon the crystal water,
Mirin stood in wet sand.
It clung to her, glimmering in the moonlight.
She stared at the sea, it stared back,
Calling to her.
Come to me, Come to me.
And she walked, shell riden footprints she left behind,
As salty water covered her feet.
The tide edged farther out, washing away the evidence of her presence.
Come to me, Come to me.
She raised her arms in a salute to the sky,
And waded deeper, the water at her waist.
She covered her head with the silver cape,
Wet, black tendrils escaped their iridescent hood.
Even as it enveloped her, the call strengthened.
Her life, her past, rushed back to memory,
And her life on the land was so far away, now forgotten.
The beat of bare feet running behind her in the sand, splashing to the sea foam, came.
A call from a once-was echoed in the night.
She didn't hear, not at first.
Then, a fleeting moment, she turned, she heard.
A saddness filled her eyes....or was it an emptiness?
The look, the stare, she turned back,
Leaving the forlorn lover to watch.
She disappeared beneath the waves,
Choosing her watery past.
A Merrow,
Reunited with the reality of herself.
Free now, in the water,
But leaving behind those who would tell the story,
Of how she went back into the sea.
