If I could paint the hues that I see within my heart,
I would pick the brightest colors, for that was my very start.
Strokes of gentle fingers on my worried brow, brought forth a shining light,
that as a tiny child, it soothed my fears in the dark of night.
Clean and fresh hues, from the meadows and sky within my world,
green and blue...and the brown of my hair that was left uncurled,
as then my life was peaceful, my sight saw only love,
that comes from the Master Painter, God from up above.
As the canvas of my heart and soul grew larger every year,
the brush strokes grew wider to cover the shades of fear.
There was gray and black, with a slight hint of scarlet hue,
as I waited for the crystal clear, that comes with the morning dew.
The sunrises and sunsets were a rainbow like no other,
it's brilliance at times would almost cause me to smother,
in breathtaking emotion, that sometimes seemed unreal,
as my fingers painted the canvas that my heart would feel.
The hues that are most common are the ones that I'll remember,
as my life heads toward the fall, the days of my september.
Though now I feel a surge of passion that may bring an unexpected shade of green,
even though I've only seen it, as in the night I dream.
For dreams are what is left after the canvas has been hung upon the wall.
But I need to step back and take special care so that I will not fall,
so far...and so hard that I cannot again pick up my artist brush,
and paint a brand new canvas, when I again will feel life's rosey flush.
I've painted my rainbow, though it's not quite finished yet,
the paint is not yet dry....it needs more time to set.
And the colors that I see, will be as beautiful as before,
to be placed on the waiting canvas, that is just beyond my hearts door.

June, this is so beautifully written. The colors on your canvas so far are beautifully place. By the time that paint does dry it will be a masterpiece.
Rainbows,

I wrote a poem containing this metaphor, a while back, although it isn't nearly as big or descriptive, and doesn't really dive anywhere near the depths this work does.
Laudable effort. |
