What's left but fear?

Topic: StoryPoetry

Sometimes he sits alone in his room
Staring up at the pale faced moon
Pondering the day behind
He wonders what is left to find.
When he was 10, I saw him at school
Sporting black and blue marks from his fathers rule.
An accident he said, “I fell off my bike”
He never let on to any of his strife.
But when we were 12, his mother died,
Beat to death by his father, while Andy tried
To save her from the monster of greed
Which possessed Andy’s father, but he wouldn’t heed
The warning from Andy, “They’ll put you away!”
He never let on to his vast array
Of Sadness, engulfing all that he had
Putting on his façade to escape from his dad.
Best friends we remained, until that night
He finally grieved for that hellish fright.
In 9th grade, he told me—“I cannot last,
I cannot break free of my desperate past.”
I begged him to stay, to last one more night
To let me ease the pain, to escape from his plight.
So together we sat until he could stand
I tried not to cry as he reached for my hand.
For me he lasted just one more year
Until September when he met his greatest fear.
He received notice of his father’s release
He sank to his knees, prayed for one night of peace.
With arms covered in scars of hate,
He held me and said that it was too late.
I did not understand, but I loved him still
As he desperately told me that he’d had his fill.
I watched him walk home with confusion and tears
Wondering why he’d loved me all these years.
Two hours passed and I heard the end.
The gunfire.
The sirens.
Time stood still.
My lifelong companion
Was gone.
Sometimes I sit alone in my room
Staring up at the pale faced moon
Pondering the day behind
I wonder what is left to find
But fear.

Tragic, i found this a very hard read, but wow what emotion. It flowed and drew so much out of me, brilliant.

Take care,
