Box

Topic: DarkPoetry

I’ve been suffocating inside this box all my life
With pollution and paintings of destruction as my clear blue sky,
These four invisible walls keep me locked inside; trapped in this lifetime of lies
And the acid rain and artificial light hurt my eyes.

Locked in this box with no future or concept of time,
This bomb slowly ticking down the minutes until we’re no longer alive,
This box isn’t big enough to let any one of us fly
If we ever live to be any older than a child…

Trapped in this prison whose values are nothing like mine -
Get a job, start a family, obey the system, stand in line
Queue to serve your country, ha, queue to waste your ******* life
Queue to not stand out, queue to die.

Suffocating inside this box since I was a child,
These sound-proofed walls, these mirrored tiles,
Millions of boxes stacked together in so many ******* piles
No names, no identity, just a barcode and a number, the only record of my life.

And I’ve been trapped in this box for so much time,
Hearing the screams of others trying to escape, trying to run from the line,
Closing my eyes to lose myself in dreams of what could be right
This box, so invisible, so fragile…so beautiful, so confined
These walls that are the only real thing in my life,
This box, it sleeps forever in my mind.

i like that concept a box being life, the best thing to do is climb on top of it!
Enjoyed this, a very thought provoking read.

what a beautiful, depressing, yet true picture of life. I loved this and especially the 1st and last stanzas. Although I must intervene and say that you are not nothing you are an amazing person... your poetry only further back up my point.

This reminds me a something I wrote awhile ago, but this is written much better. I've read a lot of good poems on this site, but yours are by far the best. You have a real gift.
