Thai Village

I walk to the cafe by the market, the cold air moist and half awake
Exchanging bows with elderly folk, taking in the misty lake.
Monks in a line walk by the hostel, blessing a shop in return for bread
They smile as I pass and nudge each other, I hold their gaze and nod my head.
Young Thais in immaculate uniforms, swapping jokes en route to school,
They stop and stare, a bleach blonde Westerner, I’d like to think they thought me cool.
The sun is rising and I feel warmer, climbing the hill towards the stones
It soothes my soul and I watch the pinkess lighting up the horizons in tones
The monks have gone replaced by commuters, cycling to work with sandaled feet
I stop a whie, look over the town and listen to the ancient beat
Life in this little part of the world is so peaceful with itself and earth,
I sit at the café and fill my head with happy thoughts of a second birth.
My green tea tastes so sweet as I feel like the ultimate voyeur,
From my window on this other world its like I am not there.
The monks walk back towards the temple so serene and good,
Their saffron robes are ideal for the climate, I’d swap if only I could.
I finish my drink and hear the school bell as the children start with prayers.
I get lost in all their chanting and lose all my Western cares.
Now I’m home and subject to all in the developed land stress,
My life’s always busy, often hurting and a mess.
My thoughts go to Thailand and then I feel serene
My mind’s eye sees monks and a pastoral scene.
It’s my safety net, my way of dealing with the pain and lies,
Oh to be far away, so close, at that Thai village sunrise.

Sounds like a wonderful place to retreat back to in your mind. Life can be tedious. The imagery here was marvelous. Great write.
