The Stranger

The stranger came, tall, dressed all in black,
He looked a mean man, no looking back,
His hat shaded his eyes from the sun,
Children pulled from street by their Mom.
His stride was long, but slow and knowing,
As though God sent he knew where he was going
Heaven help the man who stood in the way,
Of this dude from out of town who came today.
Always one, a roughneck worse for liquor,
Said “don’t think of stopping, just move quicker”,
But the stranger smiled, not scared in the least,
Hit the man with a bible and said “Son, I’m your new priest”.
