The snow
It falls
Upon the grave
So long
She sat and wept
Beside that tomb
Her tears
Turn to ice
As they run down her cheeks
She is gone
The daughter she loved
The battle was over
The illness had won
On that cold winter night
When all hope had been lost
Her daughter so young
At only 4 months
Her father had fallen
To the same wretched beast
This woman had watched
As the people she loved
Slowly each day
Faded farther away
She watched as they breathed
Their last sigh of life
She stared at the bodies
While the candlelight flickered
The orange glow
Dancing over the dead faces
The woman had buried
Her husband and child
Now nothing is left
But the sound of the snow
Gently it lays
On the new graves
The graves now old
The letters worn off
The ground beaten in
By the stomping of feet
No flowers are here
To remember the dead
They are forgotten
The story is lost
You can look at their graves
And see the death dates
Though never you'll know
The great pain that was felt
They day they both died

this is so sad..to think people who have died have no one left to remember them.. life and death can be equally cruel..

This could be considered sad... but yes I have wondered at times about the lives of those that have passed on. Death is an extension of life and so stories will forever be told. Different this poem is but it stirs the emotions of the reader as we all can relate in one way or the other. |
