Stalked by shadows,
by ghosts of memory.
Hunted by creatures,
by beasts of history.
Claws of regret,
that rips the soul.
Rending the heart,
the choices of old.
Jaws of guilt,
that shatters bone.
Shredding the flesh,
past wrongful turns.
Glares of accusation,
from blood red orbs.
Assigning damnation,
for every tear and every sob.
Howls of vengeance,
from long dead throats.
Demanding due payment,
for sins and hurts.
Followed by spectres,
every second of each day.
unable to sleep to rest,
or even to pray.
Chased by monsters,
every step of the way.
till the ending moments,
then to the shadows must I pay.

| Chilling and dark and I LOVED it. I don't know what is worse being awake with the shadows or being asleep with them. I've experienced both. Another excellent poem. How do you do it? Kie |

Being all alone with my shadows of the past!They neither haunt me nor dread til the last
I gave my heart, I gave my soul......upon the altar of Life's Sacrifice.......I did my toil, I played my role.....and now I need no longer fast! I tried my best, I did my best, imperfectly!
No longer a test, I may now rest!
This poem was splendid!
I didn't find it dark as much as enthrallingly thoughtful!
