Standing In The Face Of Death

Contributed by Rylo on Saturday, 27th March 2004 @ 10:33:09 PM in AEST
Topic: Patriotic

We stand in the face of death
Scraps of colored silk fall
to the ground, as some take
their last breath. The sound
of helicopters reach our ears,
as some say this is the worse they've
seen in years.

Just when you think all is safe,
glittering dragons fall from the sky,
with a fanfare of trumpets. Glittering
diamond chips fall with the rain, but
you march on despite the pain.

Half remembered faces get tangled up,
in the branches of trees. Some,
don't even notice due to agony and ecstasy.
Some speak of suicide, as some are
wishing for a place to hide.

As blood takes over the cities, you
take time to remember the one you love.
Standing in the face of death, everyone
calls your name. We can see nothing but
fear, staring in a face full of tears.

We can't even fall asleep, do to the
smell coming from the trenches. We
all get tired of answering the reporters
questions. Golden sunlight and the songs
of the thunder-birds, dance through my
smoke-clouded mind. Listening as they
blend into the sky.

The sound and the fury, of the executioner's
song, have a sacred meaning. It's telling
me that we still have our freedom, and we never
guessed this would have happened on our
homeland. So we went to theirs to make
a stand.

Some say speak to me of all things you've seen,
but how can you do that, if you can't even
remember your own name. So as the satin sheets
can no longer hold us, just remember
there is nothing left, but the ritual of death,
and the hope to be back on the soil,
we know best.
