THE PATH!

I chose a path where I’d never been,
When true love tapped me on the chin.
It gripped me hard and squeezed me tight.
Then walked away out of my sight.
Forward I went with head held down,
And felt an urge to turn around.
I heard love calling out loud my name.
Was I a clown or in some game?
I forgave and opened wide my arms,
Excited by love’s approaching charms.
I was spun around like a turnstile door,
As love blew past to a distant shore.
I dug a hole that filled with blood,
When my shredded heart pumped out a flood.
I could not even drop down inside,
So that from my shame I alone could hide.
I chose a path that led away,
From where I once had gone astray.
True love appeared to win me back.
I resisted much, but strength I lacked.
Oftentimes our path’s are hard to choose.
Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose.
Would happiness ever have come to stay,
Had true love not passed by my way?
In this Earthly life there’s so little time,
For the bells of love to ring and chime.
Some may travel a wide cut swathe.
As for me love took a narrow path.
